Nice update! This demo made the game feel a lot more fluid and I actually played it for quite a while even though I only averaged about 4 rooms before I died xD But overall it feels better to play.
ReplyDeleteThe only nitpick I have is I think the player bullets move too slow. It doesn't really feel like they're being shot out of a gun, especially since they move about the same speed as the player does. I think increasing it would make the game feel better while keeping difficulty high. And if the game is too easy, you can tweak other setting to make things balanced.
Also, I think pick ups should happen without having to press E. There was a few times during a battle in a room I saw a health up or a double shot power up and was excited to pick it up, but forgot to press E in the heat of the moment and usually died. I think having power ups pick ups automatic when you move to them will keep up the pace of the game and make things more fluid.
First of all, thanks for playing and reviewing!
DeleteI see what you are saying about the bullet speeds. I will make the player bullets faster. The original reason why they were so slow was because I didn't want the player bullets to be much faster than the enemy bullets and the enemy bullets had to be that slow so that it would be possible to dodge them. I've thought about it and I think it will be alright for the players bullets to be faster than the enemy ones. To balance the raise in bullet speed I increased the health of some enemies.
Now, about the pick ups, I will add the automatic picking up of health and keys. For the double shot however, I still want the player to have to press E to pick it up. This is because it is a weapon and I plan on having a lot of enemies being able to drop their weapons on death. Sometimes the dropped weapon will be more powerful than the players weapon, but it is possible that the player might not want to pick it up. For example a weapon might have higher attack speed than the players current one, but it might also have a reload time so, depending on the situation, the player might choose not to pick it up. That is why I don't want it to be automatic.
That is still not a final decision however, so if you have any arguments against it please post them.
Also I have a question to ask. I don't know if you are playing the game with sound on or not, but I was wondering if the sound of the gun, or any other sound in the game, is a bit too annoying?
Thanks :D
No problem!
DeleteAnd yeah there's really no reason to keep enemy and player bullets the same relative speed. If you play some older space arcade shooters or run and gun games like Metal slug you'll see what I mean. I'd say mess around with it a bit and see what feels good since you can always change it later if needed.
And that's actually a great point about weapon pickups. So yeah I'd totally agree with only hearts and keys being automatic pickups while weapons are manual. It's also kind of like a nice reward for clearing the room or being fast enough to pick it up in the heat of battle haha
As far as sounds go, I think they are all fine. You get used to the player shoot sound since you're always shooting and focusing on the enemies so I never found it annoying. If you put music in later I'd say to lower the sfx just a little bit, or have an option to. But other than that I thought it was fine.
Keep up the great work! :D
